We are cancelling selling carrot cakes this year due to high demand. Samples still available at the show. Carrot Cake Recipe Coming Soon…

These Carrot Cakes are handmade in Portland, Oregon, from Stephen’s mom’s original recipe — perfected during the pandemic, when he delivered carrot cakes around the city in a pink rabbit suit to raise money for local nonprofits.

This cake is more than dessert. It’s a tribute to Stephen’s mom — a nurse who spent her life caring for others, working in hospice, and raising three boys with the same love and generosity she shared with her patients. Each cake is baked in her spirit of kindness and community.

Karat Cake Bandana - white
$15.00

These limited-edition bandanas were hand-printed by a local screenprinter here in Portland, Oregon.

They started as part of a pandemic project — when Stephen was dressing up in a pink rabbit suit and delivering homemade carrot cakes to people’s doorsteps in exchange for donations to local nonprofits. The idea grew into a symbol of community, generosity, and a little bit of Portland weirdness.

Wear it, hang it, or bake something while it’s tied around your head — every bandana carries a piece of that story.

Who is The Eldest Young?

We’re a group of 6 friends who get together once a week to eat pizza and write songs for our friends and community members to listen to and maybe even dance to.

Why are we doing this?

Portland isn’t war-torn — it’s just weird. And in all that weirdness, there are the people who make the city better every day.

That’s why we’re donating 100% of the net profits from our album — merch, vinyl, shows, even carrot cake sales* — to Safe Route Immigration, a nonprofit helping people in our community find legal pathways to safety.

Safe Route helps people navigate the immigration system and stay together as families. It’s local, it’s direct, and it’s human. We believe that music should do the same thing: bring people together and make the world just a little bit kinder.

What we’re creating

We’re releasing our 4th album, GREATEST HITS, this November — and using it to do some good. This campaign helps us press vinyl, make shirts, and channel all that creative energy into direct support for Safe Route Immigration, helping families find safety and stay together.

How you can help

You can back the project at any level — from $15 for a bandana to $40 for a vinyl to $5,000 for a private show.

Every dollar from this first wave of support goes straight to Safe Route Immigration.

After production and merch costs, we’ll donate all net profits to Safe Route Immigration and share proof of the donation at the end of the campaign.

FAQ’s

  • All proceeds go directly to Safe Route Immigration, a Portland-based nonprofit helping families find legal pathways to safety.
We only use a portion of funds to cover basic production costs — like vinyl pressing, merch printing, and show expenses — so the project can exist. After that, we won’t be keeping any profits. Everything beyond those production costs is donated directly to Safe Route.

  • Safe Route Immigration helps people in our community navigate the legal system and stay together as families. They provide affordable or free legal support to individuals seeking safety and stability in the U.S.

  • This campaign was born out of our belief that art should make an impact. We’re using our music, shows, and merch to raise awareness and funds for Safe Route’s mission — helping families stay together and safe.

  • Donations made directly through Safe Route Immigration’s website are tax-deductible.
If you donate here through our campaign, funds are passed directly to them, but check with your tax advisor if you need documentation for your contribution.

  • Yes! Safe Route always welcomes volunteers and community partners. Visit their site to learn more about ways to help or connect with them directly.

    • Stream and share our new single Your Rights. Every listen helps spread awareness.

  • No. We don’t believe in completely open borders — we believe in safe, legal, and humane pathways for people seeking a better life. Our support for Safe Route Immigration is about helping families navigate the legal process and keeping them together, not bypassing it. We oppose the cruelty and separation caused by current enforcement tactics, not the idea of a fair immigration system.
